Tourism New Zealand Appoints Hill and Knowlton to Enhance Communications and Media Relations Resources

(Shanghai, August 19th 2008) Tourism New Zealand (TNZ) announced today it has appointed the global communications consulting firm Hill & Knowlton (H&K) as the communications consultancy in Mainland China and Hong Kong.
Hill and Knowlton will help Tourism New Zealand implement communication plans, provide PR support for its market strategies, and enhance the work of its International Media Programme .
Tourism New Zealand's role is to market the country as a visitor and business destination, motivating travellers to come now, do more and to send others. The main vehicle for Tourism New Zealand's activity is a global marketing campaign - 100% Pure New Zealand - which paints a picture of the remarkable people, unique culture and invigorating adventure visitors will experience within New Zealand's stunning landscape.
"Hill & Knowlton will partner with us to help provide world-class services to the media and communicate the vision of TNZ," said Mark Frood, Regional Manager of Tourism New Zealand North Asia. "Their expertise and capabilities will complement the resources we already have".
H&K was established in 1927 and is part of WPP Group plc (NASDAQ: WPPGY), one of the world's largest communications services groups. It offers international communications resources and has extensive experience with destination marketing.
"H&K will assist Tourism New Zealand to maximize the huge potential of outbound tourism from China and raise brand awareness of New Zealand as a visitor and business destination," said David Zhao, managing director of Hill & Knowlton Shanghai.
China has just become New Zealand's fourth largest tourism market surpassing Japan in February 2008. Over 124,750 Chinese visited New Zealand in the year to April 2008.
"The Chinese market holds significant inbound tourism potential for New Zealand, it is expected to be the second visitor arrival market within 5 years," said Frood. NZ$7 million has been invested in the launch of the 100% Pure New Zealand brand campaign in China.
